About

Aleksandra Ratkovic, who was born in Luxembourg, lived in Berlin for five years, where she studied communication design and worked as an assistant for the disabled. These experiences had a clear influence on her way of working. During her studies, she expanded her knowledge of how to research topics in detail, communicate messages and justify them well. Her artistic creative process is characterised by a close interplay between technical, humanistic and scientific knowledge.

The aim of her art is to make topics visible, stimulate discussion and share information. She draws inspiration from her diverse experiences and expresses her thoughts and ideas through painting. Her interest in sociological and psychological topics also influences her work.

She pays particular attention to her thoughts. For her it is an important part of creating authentic art. She searches for her choice of subject matter by listening to herself and wanting to create what she wants for herself. In her early career, she was characterised by an intuitive approach, creating abstract paintings that corresponded to her personal preferences. She observed and scrutinised her own needs in art. Looking back, she appreciates high-contrast compositions and colour combinations and enjoys working with optical illusions.

Her intuition is also evident in her figurative works, especially in the process of finding ideas. She develops concepts during everyday activities, such as walking my dog or cycling to work, and aims to create tangible art that touches people and reflects a society that is often at a loss for words. She sees visual art as a means of communication that knows no barriers.
